Mary Weston (right) lines up for a crit in New Jersey with teammate Knar.
Name: Mary Weston, occasionally Mare or WildMare
Occupation/Off-Bike Skills: Currently in grad school getting my Master’s of Arts in Teaching in Secondary English. This past year I taught 10th grade English at a Providence public school. Next school year I plan to be back and teaching (and biking) in Philly! Before that I had a stint working with Indego bikeshare which was awesome. On weekends when I’m off the bike I can be found at readings in the city or exploring new food delights.
Disciplines: I started out as a committed commuter and have since taken up road racing. I’m interested in picking up whatever I can, though– hoping to tour this summer and maybe try my hand at cyclocross next year.
Cats or cat alternates: Cat mom to a sweet bb angel, Louie.
Favorite snacks: Lately been on a chocolate chip cookie streak.
Why do you ride?
That feeling of freedom! I remember when I first started biking I noticed that my commute (by bike) felt like the best part of my day. That’s when I decided I wanted as much of that feeling as possible. I also really enjoy getting to express my competitive side through racing and training.
